Updates and Upgrades

When you buy a Stillwork plugin, every update within that version, both fixes and new features, is free for as long as you use it. Major new versions may be offered as an optional paid upgrade, and you are never forced to take one. The version you own keeps working forever, offline, on all your machines, with no server in the loop and nothing that can be switched off.

How versions work

Stillwork software is versioned as major, minor, and patch, for example 2.4.1. A patch fixes bugs. A minor release adds features within a major line. A major release, for example 3.0, may be sold as a separate paid upgrade.

What is free

A purchase includes every patch and minor update within the major line you bought, at no additional cost, for as long as you use the software. If you bought at version 2, you receive all 2.x updates free. These updates need no new license and no re-activation.

What is paid

A new major version may be offered as an optional paid upgrade. You are never forced to upgrade, and the version you own keeps working indefinitely. Whether a given major release is a paid upgrade or a free one is decided per release and announced with it.

Updates never take away access

Installing a newer build inherits the valid license already on your machine. An update can add access. It never removes access you already had, and it never re-checks a license in the middle of your work. You only ever receive an installer for a version your purchase covers, so a build you are not entitled to never reaches your machine in the first place.
