Z-Mod is an all-tube guitar amplifier: a 60 W, 6L6GC single-channel head with two footswitchable voices, a four-pedal front board, an impulse-response cabinet, and a stereo effects rack, all in one plugin. The amp is circuit modeled stage by stage, six preamp triodes into a passive tone stack, a real effects loop, dual masters, and a push-pull power section on a reactive speaker load.

The panel is the amp's panel: Gain, Bass, Middle, Treble, Presence, two masters, and the voicing switches. Where one control interacts with another, the interaction is modeled. It defaults to a playable amp. Insert it and a mic'd high-gain rig is already under your fingers, with the pedals and rack waiting bypassed until you want them.

At a glance

Signal path

Input calibration Gate (listens to the clean DI) Pedalboard: OPTO comp, PARA-Q boost, TS-MOD overdrive Amp: preamp, tone stack, FX loop, dual masters, 6L6GC power stage Cabinet: IR convolution Mono to stereo Rack: IMPACT EQ, SOLAR phaser-tremolo, ORBIT delay, OPTO compressor Output pad and trim

The pedals and rack ship bypassed. A fresh instance is the amp and cabinet alone.

Two voices

Normal is the amp's tighter, lower-gain voice. Lead adds a cascaded gain stage for the amp's signature high-gain tone. Switching rides a brief internal mute, so a voice change never cracks.

Front board

Four pedals ahead of the amp: a noise gate built for high-gain playing, an optical compressor, a parametric boost EQ, and a Tube-Screamer-family overdrive. Each has its own footswitch.

Cabinet and rack

A loadable IR cabinet after the power stage, then a studio rack in stereo: three-band EQ, phaser-tremolo, delay, and a final compressor. Load a factory cabinet or your own impulse.

Dual masters

Master A and Master B with an Auto selector that follows the channel, the two-level rhythm and solo trick from the hardware. Masters set power-stage drive as well as level.

How your license works

A Stillwork plugin never deactivates itself in the middle of a session. Your license is tied to you, not to a piece of hardware, so the same license file works on every machine you own. The plugins run offline and do not phone home. When you buy, you receive the actual installer and license file, and we encourage you to keep both.

Every update within version 1, both fixes and new features, is free for as long as you use it. A major new version may be offered as an optional paid upgrade, and you are never forced to take one. The version you own keeps working, offline, on all your machines, with no server in the loop.
